Food for Thought: 2/27

On this week's Food for Thought, a repeat low performer is at the bottom once again.

Lubbock health inspectors surprised dozens of restaurants across the Hub City this week, but only one stop made our list.

Lin's Buffet at 5608 Slide Road had nine critical violations:

  • Raw chicken, beef, eggs and cantaloupe were voluntarily thrown out because they were above the safe cold temperature of 41 degrees.
  • Cooked brisket, salmon and chicken were not at least 135 degrees.
  • An employee changed tasks without washing their hands.
  • An employee handled food with their bare hands.
  • There were no paper towels at a hand sink.
  • Ice was in a hand sink. An uncovered drink was on a shelf above a food prep area.
  • Heavily soiled buckets of broccoli were stored on top of each other. The contaminated broccoli was thrown away.
  • Beef and an open package of cheese did not have a date mark.
  • Cans were dented. That can lead to botulism.

The report shows all violations were corrected at the time of the inspection.
