Smyer boys heading to state tournament

Posted: Updated:
SMYER, TX (KCBD) -

For the first time ever the Smyer Boys Basketball team is heading to the State Tournament in Austin.

Tuesday morning they received a Super State Sendoff from the school.

The 7th ranked Bobcats (29-5) will meet #1 Mumford (37-1), who have won 35 straight games.

They'll play in the Class 1A Division I State Semifinals Thursday, Mar. 6, at 10 a.m. in Austin.

While it's the first time for the boys, the Smyer girls won 2 State Titles in 3 trips in the last 5 years.

Smyer Boys Coach, Lonnie Burnam, has done a super job.

Last November Burnam was on the 700th I Beat Pete doing airplane basketball.

He certainly has taken flight with Smyer taking them to new heights. You can see that challenge here.
