LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) -

Tesla Motors is looking to open a $4-$5 billion dollar lithium ion battery plant in either New Mexico or Texas, and the landscape in Lubbock would make a perfect home.

Mayor Glen Robertson says the company is looking for a location that could utilize wind energy, so advances at the Reese Center here in Lubbock could put it higher on their list.

"We would certainly be interested in speaking with Tesla and have Lubbock be considered for this new location." Robertson said.

Robertson plans to meet with John Osborne with LEDA to talk about the option more next week.
