Texas Tech named best value college

Texas Tech University recently was listed in Kiplinger Personal Finance's "25 Best College Values Under $30,000/Year," as part of the magazine's annual Best Values in Public Colleges feature.

Texas Tech came in at No. 20, and is the only Texas school on the list. Tuition and mandatory fees for Texas Tech undergraduate resident students are $7,517 for 24 credit hours.

"Texas Tech has one of the lowest in-state and out-of-state tuitions in the country, making it a great value nationally," said M. Duane Nellis, president of Texas Tech. "We have an outstanding, talented faculty that is dedicated to our mission of producing the very best graduates, who leave here and make significant contributions to our society."

Following the May 2013 Board of Regents meeting, the university announced it would maintain tuition and mandatory fees from the 2012-2013 school year, a move designed to encourage student enrollment and retention.

"Students at Texas Tech enjoy world-class resources and facilities without having to face the dread of staggering debt upon graduation," said Chancellor Kent Hance. "We pride ourselves on our ability to keep costs low while still providing a quality education and college experience. It is very exciting to be named one of the Best College Values at a time when the price of higher education continues to climb across the country."

Kiplinger's new college finder tool, available at kiplinger.com/links/collegefinder, complements the magazine's college features and reveals the best college values in each region, best values among different-sized campuses, and best values under $30,000 a year.

Kiplinger recently named Texas Tech in the February issue as a best value public college as 11th among students graduating with the least average debt.
