A recall of beef products originally issued back in February has now been expanded from six states to 35, including the state of Texas.
Eddie Owens with United Supermarkets says although United locations were on the USDA list, these products are not sold here and Lubbock stores are not affected.
United released this statement on Friday afternoon:
"We have never purchased any products from Rancho Feeding Corporation," said Scott Nettles, senior director of perishables for United Supermarkets, LLC. "Our guests have no need to worry about any raw beef product purchased at any of our stores," Nettles added.
The Rancho Feeding recall earlier resulted in a voluntary recall by Nestle of its Philly Steak and Cheese flavored Hot Pockets after it discovered a supplier had bought meat from Rancho Feeding. United stores immediately removed all those Hot Pockets products from its shelves on Feb. 17 without incident.
Local Target stores were also on the list, but company representatives confirm that Lubbock stores are not affected.
The USDA is calling it a "class one recall" meaning it is "a health hazard situation where there is a reasonable probability that the use of the product will cause serious, adverse health consequences or death."
The U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service is warning consumers about a long list of products produced by the Rancho Feeding Corporation "because it processed diseased and unsound animals and carried out these activities without the benefit or full benefit of federal inspection."
