Crisp, Westwood headed back to title games

MACON, GA (WALB) -

A pair of state champs will defend their titles Saturday in Macon.

Crisp Academy and Westwood each won state semifinal games Friday afternoon at Mercer to advance back to the state championship games.

The four-time defending GISA A champion Lady Wildcats didn't wait long to put away Robert Toombs in a 49-25 rout.

Tied at four in the first quarter, the Lady Cats went on a 17-0 run to close out the frame.

Seniors Madi Mitchell and Kara White combined for 18 first quarter points, including White's three-pointer at the horn.

Mitchell, the Mercer signee, led Crisp with 21 points on the floor where she'll play college ball.

Crisp will play Thomas Jefferson Academy Saturday at noon for the GISA A state championship.

Later in the afternoon, defending AA state champ Westwood took down Arlington Christian to advance to the state title game.

The Lady Wildcats knocked off the Lady Eagles in overtime in the 2013 title game.

This one was another dogfight.

Rachel Harrell had 17 points to lead the Lady Cats to a 60-57 win.

Arlington Christian knocked down a three pointer to cut the lead to three with two seconds to play, but Westwood was able to drain the final seconds off the clock and punch their ticket to Saturday's championship game.

Westwood will play Briarwood in the AA state title game Saturday at 3:20 p.m. in Macon.
