Westwood Girls take AA state title

MACON, GA (WALB) -

The Westwood girls held on late to defeat Briarwood in the GISA AA State final 50-46 Saturday in Macon.

"Experience pays off when you get in a really tight game like that when it gets down to the critical moments," said head coach Jenni Smith. "I also think just being a fundamentally sound team helps because kids can fall back on their fundamentals."

The Wildcats held on despite 33 points from Briarwood's Malia Kency. Rachell Harrell had 21 points for Westwood.

The Lady Wildcats graduated three seniors from this year's team.
