Red Flag Warning issued for South Plains until 10 p.m. Tuesday

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) -

A Red Flag Warning has been issued for Lubbock and surrounding areas until 10 p.m. Tuesday night.

Tuesday afternoon will be sunny, dusty, windy, and very warm.

Peak gusts so far today have been measured at 45 mph.

A cold front will also move across the area after 6 p.m. which will bring an increase in wind speed and blowing dust.

Some winds may reach up to 50 mph. 

Temperatures will begin to fall after midnight. Wednesday morning will be windy and colder with a low of 30.

Winds will remain into Wednesday with highs staying in the 50s. Winds will diminish my Wednesday afternoon. 

The National Weather Service is urging people in the area to take precautionary and preparedness actions and to avoid activities that promote open flames and sparks.
