Some community leaders are speaking out against a proposed outer route for Lubbock.
TxDOT is the early planning stages of the route which would run from Highway 84 near Shallowater south to Wolfforth and then east to Highway 84 near Slaton.
Those against the current plan say it supports growth in one portion of the city at the expense of others, including North, East and Central Lubbock.
Council members Victor Hernandez and Floyd Price, along with five other community leaders, have now sent a letter to TxDOT explaining their concerns.
They say the department should consider a full second loop around the city, not just an outer route on the south and west sides.
They're also requesting that another public meeting be held in Northeast Lubbock so more residents can share their thoughts.
TxDOT has said that all public comments will be considered.
