LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) -

A Lubbock man has been arrested for a false kidnapping report.

On Tuesday, Mar. 11, a 2007 red Saturn Ion was reported stolen from the K-Mart parking lot at 6501 University at 2:26 p.m.

The owner of the vehicle, 25-year-old Preston Washington, told police that his 6-year-old daughter was in the front seat of the vehicle when it was stolen.

Officers from numerous units, as well as first and second shift officers, responded to the call.

Police say the vehicle was located at 2:40 p.m. in the alley of 7800 and Avenue U.

When the child and the suspect were not located in the vehicle police began a door to door search.

Police say that Washington began giving conflicting information about the child.

They say officers were able to locate the child that was reported as kidnapped with other children related to Washington.

Washington was arrested after the false report of kidnapping had been verified.

The suspect who stole the vehicle has not been located.
