Red Raiders lose at Big 12 championships

KANSAS CITY, MO (KCBD) -

The Red Raiders were hoping to win the rubber match against Oklahoma State and make a run in the Big 12 Championships in Kansas City.

They had a promising 8-0 lead at the start, but the 8th-seeded Cowboys proved to be too much, winning the first round matchup 80-62.

Senior Jaye Crockett led Tech with 20. Dejan Kravic had 18 points, 12 rebounds.

The Red Raiders finish 14-18, marking the first time in his 23-year coaching career that Tubby Smith has a losing record.

However, in his first season at Texas Tech, Smith has reignited the Red Raider fan base and led many to expect a bright future.
