Fire destroys Hooks, TX., mobile home, killing one person and injuring another
HOOKS, TX (KSLA) -
One person has died and another seriously injured in an early morning fire that destroyed a mobile home in Hooks, Texas, and fire investigators are trying to determine the cause of the blaze.
Police say fire fighters were called to the scene of a mobile home fire at around 2:30 a.m. Saturday morning. They arrived to find a single-wide trailer fully engulfed in flames.
Authorities say a woman died in the fire after she went back into the mobile home for reasons that aren't known. Her husband, who had gotten her and their two children out of the house, suffered serious burns on his arms and legs and is being treated at St. Michael Hospital in Texarkana, Texas.
Family members told KSLA News 12 that the husband had smelled what he thought was burning wires. When he discovered his wife had gone back into the house, he pulled out a window air conditioning unit and tried to get back into the house to get her. Fire fighters had to pull him out.
Investigators were on the scene of the fire Saturday looking for clues as to how the fire started and why.
Family members say the man suffered another tragedy five years ago, when his house caught fire due to a faulty dryer.
"She and my brother were most definitely companions and friends," family member Sherri Simpson said.
A fund has been set up at Wells Fargo in Texarkana, Texas, for donations to help the Springer family. Those interested in donating can give to the Robert Springer Fund at the bank.
