A 34-year-old Welsh man is facing an attempted first-degree murder charge after trying to suffocate a woman with plastic wrap, authorities said.
Welsh Police Chief Marcus Crochet said Adrian Scott Daigle was arrested Friday in Lafayette.
"Once officers arrived on the scene in the 500 block of East South Street, they made contact with a female victim who said that a white male went into her home, attacked her and attempted to suffocate her with plastic wrap," Crochet said.
The woman fought Daigle off three times before she was able to run to a neighbor for help.
Crochet said it is believed that Daigle and the victim were neighborhood friends. He also says the night before the incident, police responded to another incident involving a second woman.
"There was an incident involving some other female," said Crochet. "Right now, we're in the preliminary stages of putting that information together to make sure that it's accurate before we move forward on it."
Crochet says police are handling both incidents separately until they've gathered enough evidence and statements to believe the incidents were linked to each other.
"We will be out in full force whenever we have an incident like this, trying to track down these subjects who are responsible for stuff like this," said Crochet. "To make sure they're brought to justice."
The victim did not seek medical treatment but said she is "pretty shaken up," Crochet said.
Daigle was booked into the Jeff Davis Parish jail where he is awaiting a hearing.
Bond is pending in the case.
