SMITH COUNTY, TX (KLTV) - The preliminary autopsy on a body found in Whitehouse on Monday has been returned, but authorities still haven't been able to identify the body.

Precinct 3 Justice of the Peace James Meredith says the body is so decomposed it is making it difficult to determine the identity. Histologists are examining tissue from the body in an attempt to identify it. Authorities are also waiting on a toxicology report, which can take up to six weeks to be returned.

Meredith said that dental records obtained from a family in Whitehouse were sent off to the lab with the body.

Smith County Sheriff Larry Smith initially said the body, which was partially decomposed, was that of a white male. Smith also added that there was no sign of foul play.

Sheriff's officials say the body was found in a wooded area about 40 yards off the road just south of Loop 49 near Whitehouse next to Nipper's Quality Auto Works.

An employee from the auto shop was outside repairing the business's fence near the woods, when they saw the body and called authorities.
