Pilot, passenger walk away from NM plane crash with 'no injuries'

RUIDOSO, NM (KCBD) -

Authorities say the pilot and passenger of a Piper Cherokee that crashed while attempting to take off from Sierra Blanca Regional Airport Wednesday afternoon both walked away from the crash with no injuries.

They say the airplane was taking off from Runway 30 when it went down at approximately 5:30 p.m. Airport Rescue & Fire Fighting (ARFF) personnel were on-scene within five minutes. The FAA and the NTSB were immediately notified, and the NTSB is currently working with the pilot to determine the cause of the crash.

There was minor property damage sustained at the airport. The aircraft has been removed and securely stored while the investigation continues.
