SPC Texans lose in Quarterfinals

HUTCHINSON, KS (KCBD) -

South Plains College gave No. 1 Indian Hills, Iowa all they could handle in the NJCAA Quarterfinals, but the Texans came up short 71-70 in Hutchinson, Kansas Thursday afternoon.

Lester Medford, who's heading to Baylor, made two free throws with 2.3 seconds left and the Texans were unable to get off a quality shot before the buzzer sounded.

SPC had several comebacks including down 2 with 21 seconds left, Billydee Williams hit a 3 to give the Texans a 70-69 lead.

South Plains College also trailed the #1 team by 14 points with 14 minutes to play, but the Texans in a 5 minute span went on a 19-5 run to tie the game at 58.

Andre Spight had 17, Williams had 4 3's and 15 points for the Texans.

SPC finishes up another terrific season under Steve Green 29-6 while Indian Hills (33-2) moves into the Final 4 of the Junior College National Championship.
