Food for Thought: 3/20

Out of dozens of restaurants inspected this week we have a mixed plate of top and low performers in Food for Thought.

KCBD NewsChannel 11's Christy Hartin dishes serves up the good and bad news.

Health inspectors found eight critical violations at the Laredo Taco Company inside Stripes at 806 34th.

  • Beans were not cooling properly. This can allow for the growth of bacteria.
  • Several foods in a cooler were above the safe cold temperature of 41 degrees.
  • Chicken legs were not at least 135 degrees.
  • An employee was eating in the kitchen. Several uncovered drinks were in the kitchen.
  • A 10-day date mark was being used on items that should only have a seven-day expiration.
  • There were no paper towels at a hand sink.
  • Two coolers did not have thermometers.

The inspector notes - due to the nature and the number of violations, management did not show proper food safety knowledge.

The report shows most violations were corrected at the time of the inspection.

Texas Land and Cattle at 7202 Indiana was cited for six critical violations.

  • Smoked sirloin was not at least 135 degrees.
  • An employee handled salad items with their bare hands.
  • Raw ground beef was stored above fish and soup.
  • Ready to eat chicken and ribs did not have a date mark.
  • Oven cleaner was stored above ready to eat foods.
  • The dishwasher was not sanitizing.

The report shows all violations were corrected while the inspector was there.
