Speakers from W.A.S.P, Warriors Against Synthetic Pot, are rallying together to gain support in their efforts to boycott smoke shops that sell synthetic marijuana.
Dr. Brian Carr, chairman for the Board of Health, organized the agenda for today's Board of Health meeting that included Lubbock doctors and health officials.
"We have a pretty active agenda today," Carr said, "We will be hearing from a citizen's group who has been doing some public protests and boycotts, which I think is the way to handle it."
A multitude of people have expressed their concern about the selling of synthetic marijuana and believe today is the day to extend the issue further.
Carr said his vision is for more Lubbock community members and for law enforcement to become interested in the issue of the dangers of synthetic marijuana.
He also hopes to someday consolidate their efforts to help one another.
"We want to try to deal with this from a legal perspective," Carr says. "Because this is indeed a danger and a problem in this city and something has to be done."
Carr's and board member's concerns also go beyond the users of synthetic marijuana.
The American Heart Association gave a presentation about the dangers of secondhand smoking.
"There is a risk of secondhand smoke for the employees of establishments that have continued to have smoking" Carr said.
