West Texas A&M loses NCAA D2 title game

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) -

Looking to capture their first ever basketball championship, the 5th-ranked Lady Buffs saw a late 9-point lead slip away as undefeated No. 1 Bentley came back to win 73-65 and capture the NCAA Division 2 Title.

The game was tied at the half, but Coronado grad Devin Griffin took over, leading WT with 20 points. Sudan grad Lacee Logan had 8. Madison McLain, a Sophomore from Gruver gave the Lady Buffs a spark, coming off the bench to hit 3 three-pointers.

However, with the Lady Buffs up 9 with 5:15 left, Bentley mounted a comeback by turning up their defense. Stealing 3 inbound passes under their own basket in the final 3 minutes, the Lady Falcons rallied to take the lead and keep their perfect season intact.

West Texas A&M finishes the season a terrific 32-3. Bentley finishes the season 35-0 and National Champs.

WT last played for the National Championship in 1988 but lost their first game in the Title Contest to Hampton Institute 65-48.

Other area players on West Texas A&M are Sophomore Danielle Logan, Freshman Bailey Thiel from Idalou and Freshman Kacey Whitley from Lorenzo.

Congrats to West Texas A&M on a terrific season.
