The Sandstorm Scholar and KCBD have learned through an open records request with the city of Lubbock that the Ashcroft Report cost LP&L ratepayers over $272,000.
According to EUB member Clayton Isom, LP&L staff, who knew the true cost in early February, chose to conceal the cost from the Electric Utilities Board until Thursday when the Sandstorm Scholar's questions forced staff to reveal the true cost to board members.
"I can tell you that not one board member was made aware of that until about two or three hours ago after I was made aware of it by KCBD," Isom explained Thursday evening in an exclusive Sandstorm Scholar/KCBD interview.
LP&L general counsel Todd Kimbrough was responsible for paying the exorbitant amount for the report that found no wrongdoing on the part of LP&L staff in the now abandoned bid process for power generation for 2019.
"Our General Counsel, Todd Kimbrough, approved the expenses associated with the investigation," Isom said.
Mayor Glen Robertson said, "Any amount we paid for that whitewash is too much, but $272,000 is theft from the ratepayers."
Isom said, "It's just disappointing. There's no reason for it; it shouldn't be done this way."
