If you notice pinwheels blowing in the wind around Lubbock the next couple of days, it's part of an effort to raise awareness about child abuse.
A majority of the pinwheels are on display at Avenue Q and Broadway, but across town, there are 1,354 spinning in the wind.
That number represents the number of confirmed cases of child abuse or neglect reported in Lubbock County last year.
Pinwheels for Prevention is set up by Sondra's Song, a Lubbock nonprofit organized to help older children in foster care.
"The reason we do it is because we work with foster kids who are aging out of care, and we truly believe it's a cycle. If we can stop the cycle early, then we don't have to help them when they turn 18."
Another child abuse prevention event is scheduled for Saturday.
If you'd like to be a part of Stand Up for Kids, that event will take place at Leroy Elmore Park at the South Loop and Quaker.
Stand Up for Kids is organized by the Children's Advocacy Center.
