It's a week into April and the Monterey Lady Plainsmen are still playing soccer.
After eliminating Amarillo 3-1 in the sectional round Friday, Monterey moved on to the regional quarterfinals where they'll meet El Paso Chapin on Tuesday.
"This is the furthest that any team in Lubbock has gone in a long time, if not the furthest," Monterey girls soccer coach Scott Burke said after the victory over Amarillo.
"It's extremely rare that you get to keep going this long into the year. The girls and I are real excited that we're still going."
"This is the furthest we've ever gotten," senior Claudia Sanchez said. "To go further than any team in Lubbock has gone is pretty good. I'm really proud to be a Plainsman."
Monterey enters the contest with EP Chapin with a 22-5-4 record.
Tuesday night's regional quarterfinal game will be at 6 p.m. at Ratliff Stadium in Odessa.
