No doubt taxes are on everyone's mind this week and it's an important time to remember that it is our money, not theirs.
We elect these people to make decisions with the money we earn, but nothing ever seems to get done on our behalf.
Congress won't balance a budget and can't stop spending money it doesn't have. It's simple economics. Their endless money addiction is the demand, and our paychecks are the supply.
The result: a tax system that can never raise enough money to catch a runaway spending train.
First, I think Americans should have to pay their entire tax bill on Tax Day - a major reminder that this is money we earned. After all, if it comes straight out of our checks we tend to forget it was ever ours in the first place.
Second, the budget must be balanced to keep politicians from coming back to the well. I like Warren Buffet's idea the best: any time there is a deficit of more than 3 percent, all sitting members of congress are ineligible for reelection.
I bet those are a couple of ideas that won't fly in DC.
