Bridge of Lubbock to provide free meals to families on Friday

The Bridge of Lubbock will be providing a hot meal to local families in need in honor of Easter on Friday, Apr. 18, from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m.

In 2012, The Bridge of Lubbock was forced to end their thrice weekly meal offering due to funding concerns. However, the community support for their Thanksgiving and Christmas offering remained strong leading them to add a meal for Easter. Director of Outreach, Ashlei Watson says, "This meal truly signifies the restoration of hope because we celebrate the forgiveness that is granted to those who believe that Jesus the Christ chose to die in our place and then rise giving us life."

Last year churches; Cathedral of Praise and Victory Life Church and businesses; Familia Dentistry and Amerigroup came together to sponsor this meal. As a result, the Bridge was able to feed almost 150 people, distribute much needed hygiene bags and provide a festive celebration which included students singing praise to God.

This year they would like to double the number of families served. Cash sponsorships will be used to cover costs associated with preparing the meal, purchasing hygiene items that are not donated and other décor items.

"We believe this is a great way for the community to be involved and work together to breathe life into low-income and homeless families. The Bridge is a small non-profit that is privately funded, we cannot be the hands and feet of Jesus in East Lubbock without the support of the greater Lubbock community." said Director of Operations, Hillary Hilderbrand about the significance of financial sponsorships.

The Bridge of Lubbock is also seeking donations of hygiene products such as soap, shampoo, deodorant, toothpaste and a toothbrush, and other hygiene accessories that will be used to create gift bags for individuals in attendance.

If you are interested in donating any type of hygiene product or sponsoring this meal, you may contact Ashlei Watson at awatson@bridgeoflubbock.org or call 806-687-0772. Drop- off donation times is any Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
