LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) -

Nearly two years ago, we introduced you to the South Plains Mall Walkers, a group of local veterans who meet every morning to take a stroll through the mall.

It started as a way to stay in shape, but over the years, it has transformed into so much more than that.

Rain or shine, these men meet in the food court and take turns picking up the coffee tab. They gossip, swap war stories and share accomplishments.

Army, Navy, Air Corp and Marines are all represented in the group, so it's not unusual to hear a little bickering about which branch is best. They say the only thing they're missing is a member of the Coast Guard, although, they admit that may be difficult living so far from the coast.

So, if you're ever at the South Plains Mall, bright and early in the morning, make sure to stop by and see the Mall Walkers. They'll be sure to give you a smile, and maybe even a cup of joe.
