Texas Rangers investigating officer-involved shooting

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) -

Texas Rangers are investigating an officer-involved shooting that happened near 82nd & I-27 around 5 a.m. Sunday morning.

DPS representatives say it started as a routine traffic stop. Trooper Corina Jandrew, a 19 year veteran with the Texas Department of Public Safety, stopped a 4-door Cadillac with three people inside.

The driver, Brandon Leonel Monroy, 20, of Tulare, California, failed to identify himself and was placed under arrest.

DPS says Monroy fought with the trooper as she tried to arrest him and was shot.

He was transported to UMC and later pronounced dead.

DPS says Monroy had active warrants out of California.

We'll continue to update this story as we learn more.
