A Gulfport man who was thrown from his vehicle in a rollover accident Sunday night, died on the side of Interstate 10 as a result of his injuries. The accident happened just before 7pm near mile marker 36.
Gulfport Police said a 1998 Mercury Mountaineer, driven by a 55-year-old man, was headed west on I-10 when he attempted to pass slower traffic on the right shoulder. That's when the driver lost control of his vehicle and flipped several times. The driver was ejected from the vehicle when it overturned. He was pronounced dead on scene by medical personnel.
Harrison County Coroner Gary Hargrove said the name of the deceased is being withheld pending the notification of his next of kin. The crash is still under investigation.
