City Council candidates face voters at Monday night forum

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) -

Residents heard from a majority of the candidates running for Lubbock City Council on Monday night, but two did not attend the forum.

Hosted by Lubbock Liberty and The Constitutional Society, the forum ran from 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

Around 60 people attended, asking candidates about the city budget, staffing at the Lubbock Police and Fire Departments, the water supply and more.

Moderator Brian Thorton said this was a chance to "get a wide range of issues talked about and thoroughly discussed. We've got candidates from all three races represented."

All three candidates for the District 1 seat attended Monday night's forum.

They are incumbent Victor Hernandez, Frank Gutierrez, and Lana Bear Moore.

District 3 candidate Jeff Griffith did not attend, but his challengers Deanne Clark and Maurice Stanley were there.

Current District 3 Representative Todd Klein is not seeking re-election.

District 5 incumbent Karen Gibson did not attend the forum, but her challenger Brian Carr was on hand to answer questions.

Voters will decided among the candidates on May 10.
