Idalou Boys Coach Tyler Helms taking over as Girls coach

IDALOU, TX (KCBD) -

After coaching the Idalou Boys for the past five seasons with tremendous success, Tyler Helms is moving over to be the new Girls Basketball Coach.

In five years leading the Wildcat Boys, they won four straight Regional Championships earning four consecutive trips to the State Tournament. Idalou won the 2A State Title in 2011.

So why is Coach Helms jumping from coaching the Boys to the Girls?

"It's not part of a master plan or anything like that. Just an opportunity arose. Never in my wildest dreams would I have imagined that I was going to go from the Boys side to the Girls side, but the Lord puts those steps in your way sometimes. You have to maneuver around to see where you're supposed to go. This one popped up on us. It's time for a new challenge and I'm excited to take the Girls job in Idalou," Helms said.

Idalou Girls went 24-8 this season reaching the Regional Quarterfinals.
