Lubbock city council's latest effort to snuff out synthetic marijuana is positive government. but sadly, it may not accomplish its goal.
Council has done what they can to ban all ingredients that make up this dangerous drug but the root of the problem still exists.
And even though the law will be more clear, the penalty for selling synthetic marijuana hasn't changed.
Violators will still only face a misdemeanor and that's just not enough for some of these "dealers" to throw away their illegal livelihood.
Until the law is changed at the state level and stiffly enforced on the local level, I suspect this problem won't go away.
It's legislators in Austin that need to understand "synthetic pot" is just as dangerous as real drugs. Laws should be passed to put violators in jail with more than a slap on the wrist.
In this case good intentions just won't replace real punishment.
