JONES COUNTY, MS (WDAM) -

Hundreds of students at Northeast Jones High School saw in graphic detail Friday morning what can happen when you drink and drive. They witnessed a Prom Promise-mock crash which detailed the dramatic events immediately following a head-on collision.

Jones County firefighters and law enforcement officers, along with many volunteers, staged the event at the football stadium for juniors and seniors.

"This is what can happen," said Lance Chancellor with Powers Fire and Rescue. "Crashes can happen, people can lose their lives and become injured," he said.

"It was traumatic, probably shocked a lot of people," said Kristina Smith, a junior at Northeast Jones.

"It shocked me, I'll definitely think twice about what I do when I go to prom," said Keontae Jones, another junior.

Northeast Jones will host its prom Saturday night.
