Breal shuts down EMCC to lead MGCCC softball to playoff win

PERKINSTON, MS (MGCCC) - Paige Breal relieved starting pitcher Emily Davis and struck out eight to lead Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College to a 9-2 win over East Mississippi in game one of the MACJC best-of-three playoff series Friday.

Breal, a freshman from St. Martin, saw her first extended work in the circle after a rib injury and held the Lady Lions (27-21) to no runs on one hit in six and two-thirds innings of work.

Gulf Coast (32-16) fell behind 2-1 after the first inning but took control of the game with a five-run bottom of the fourth. Davis stayed in the game to play second base and went 2-for-4 with three RBIs at the plate. Ashley Hickman, Brooke Ladner, and Brittany Butler also had two hits apiece for the Lady Bulldogs.

Gulf Coast is currently on a five-game winning streak. Game two is set for Saturday at noon.
