LUBBOCK, Texas – For the second time this season, Texas Tech sophomore first baseman Eric Gutierrez (Mission, Texas) has been named the Big 12 Player of the Week, the league office announced this afternoon.

Gutierrez, who is the sixth Red Raider to earn the award twice in a season and the first since 2011 (Stephen Hagen), led Tech to a series sweep over Oklahoma, Tech's first sweep over the Sooners since 2002. Overall, it is the 27th time a Red Raider has been named the league's player of the week.

Also receiving top honors from the Big 12 are Kansas right-handed pitcher Jordan Piche' (Pitcher of the Week) and West Virginia left-handed pitcher Ross Vance (Newcomer of the Week).

Gutierrez blasted his eighth, ninth and 10th home runs of the season during the final two games of Tech's series sweep over Oklahoma. Tech has now swept three straight weekend series, two of them coming against Big 12 opponents (K-State, OU).

He finished the week batting .368 (7-for-19) in five games with six runs, three homers, 10 RBI, two walks, .435 on-base percentage and .842 slugging percentage.

Gutierrez finished the week with three straight multi-hit games against the Sooners. He completed the series sweep in the final two games going 4-for-8 with three homers and seven RBI.

He homered twice in the series finale, making him the first Red Raider to hit two home runs in a home game since 2010.

Gutierrez currently leads the Big 12 in home runs (10), RBI (48), total bases (104) and slugging percentage.

Gutierrez and the Red Raiders will be back in action Tuesday, Apr. 29 while starting a five-game road trip at Oral Roberts in Tulsa for a 6 p.m. first pitch at J.L. Johnson Stadium.
