Pay It Forward started out this week along South Milwaukee Avenue at the Lubbock Youth Softball Complex near FM 1585. We set up in the gusty winds with our Pay It Forward sign.
John Key was taking a lunch break with his wife and kids when he saw our sign. He stopped right away.
The first person he wanted to help wasn't home, so with a few minutes to spare, John was given one more opportunity to help someone out. He told us he wanted to help out a buddy.
He decided to help Dmitri Andrews. Dmitri lived nearby so we took a short trip to his home and surprised him with $300.
Dmitri came outside unaware of what was about to happen. When he asked what was going on, John filled him in. He explained "Pay It Forward" and said he wanted to help Dmitri out.
Dmitri was very grateful. He didn't believe it at first, but once he realized it was really happening, he was very thankful and gave John a hug.
Dmitri told us that he would use the money to pay bills and buy food for himself and his dogs. He also keeps up the property where he lives and told us it would help out there, too. He told John thank you and said he appreciated having a friend like John in his life.
Be looking for our Pay It Forward sign soon. You may become our next playmaker.
