Fastpitch softball teams brave dust, wind to play Tuesday night

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) -

Dust was not the only thing soaring through the air Tuesday night - baseballs were flying at the Lubbock Youth Sports Complex.

Thirty-two fastpitch softball teams played Tuesday evening on eight fields, despite the weather conditions.

The team members ranged in age from 6 to 14.

"They play in all kinds of crazy weather," said Mathew Wainscott, executive board member for the complex. "They play in wind, in rain, in everything else. I think they did pretty good tonight."

The teams were eager to play after their game got canceled on Monday due to wind gusts over 40 miles per hour.

Priscilla Martinez's daughter pitches for the S.W.A.T. fastpitch softball team, and said she is ready to sit in the sunshine in the stands. Until then, she keeps a blanket in her car just in case the weather changes again.

"It's Lubbock, Texas," she said. "We're pretty used to it."
