Community members and Wilson ISD students have signed a pair of petitions in an effort to remove two Wilson ISD administrators from the school.
Wilson school board trustees will meet to discuss the potential termination of Superintendent Russell Schaub and Principal Brenda Prather on Thursday.
Wilson ISD attorney David Backus says the item will be considered by the board members in a closed session forum.
112 community members signed one petition while 52 students signed a separate petition. Both contained the same call to action, the removal of Schaub and Prather.
The petition states:
"It has come to the attention of the community that the Administration of Wilson ISD have denied teachers a clear and concise grievance process. The teachers have been threatened, repressed and made to work in a hostile environment which is a clear violation of acting outside of the scope of their job description. It is the community's consensus to request the Wilson Independent Trustees remove Russell Schaub and Brenda Prather from active duty and investigate these allocations."
The 140-student district will require a total of 16 teachers next fall, and, according to community member Kenneth Kendrick, there are currently only 11 teachers listed on the Wilson ISD website.
The Texas Educators Agency says there are nine teaching positions at Wilson ISD.
Backus said that, legally, the petition won't immediately call for a termination, but the school board will take the response of the community into consideration.
"Does it trigger legal response by a school board? No. But does it weigh heavily on the final decision of the board? I think that answer would be yes," Backus said.
