LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) -

A fire that began around 10 a.m. in east Lubbock has displaced six people.

Sergeant Rob Keinast, with Lubbock Fire and Rescue, said the flames started in the front bedroom and it took firefighters about 25 minutes to contain.

"Apparently everybody was inside and they had the smell of smoke, got everyone out... also in this, Fire Marshalls are investigating at this time because we don't see any working smoke detectors," said Keinast.

Keinast also stressed the importance of residents having working smoke detectors in their homes.
