SHAKER HEIGHTS, OH (WOIO) -

One person was injured when a driver slammed into a Shaker Heights coffee shop on Monday morning.

It happened at Gimme Java on Lee Road.

"I'm working on both my laptops as I come here pretty much everyday and do my work," Jody Weathers said. "Watch out, watch out. And I looked up and I see the jeep Cherokee barreling toward me.  And all I could do is just take a step and dive out of the way."

19 Action News has learned the driver, 45-year old Carl Sharpley, has a suspended license and may have been under the influence of alcohol.

"We're saying sit down, just don't move, don't move, don't move and that was it," said Vicki White.

Sharpley tried to flee the scene, but was quickly arrested. He was ticketed for running a red light and driving with suspended license.

He has a pending citation for OVI, depending on his blood work when it comes back from lab.
