Sin Tax goes to the voters

Posted: Updated:
CUYAHOGA COUNTY, OH (WOIO) -

A tobacco and alcohol tax is up for renewal on Tuesday's ballot, and all three professional sports teams in Cleveland have a vested interest in this vote.

The campaign pushing for a renewal of Cuyahoga County's sin tax raised more than $1M during the most recent finance period. Nearly $1M came from Cleveland's professional sports teams.

Tuesday, voters will decide whether to approve a 20-year renewal of the county's tax on alcohol and cigarettes to pay for upkeep to Cleveland's professional sports stadiums.

Voters approved the original sin tax in 1990.
