DAYTON, OH (FOX19) -

One person was injured and a former employee arrested Monday afternoon following a shooting at the Dayton Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Dayton, Ohio.

Police identified the alleged shooter as Neil Moore, 59. Police said Moore worked in the housekeeping department of the VA.

Dayton Police Chief Richard Biehl said the shooter walked into a break room in the basement of the medical center and shot a current VA employee in the ankle. Police said the worker, identified as Paul Burnside, was expected to recover.

Biehl said Moore went to nearby Good Samaritan Hospital and asked for psychiatric help. He was located and arrested by police about 30 minutes after the shooting.

Officers first responded just after 12:15 p.m. to reports of an active shooter at the VA facility. According to WHIO-TV, Dayton police were initially checking room-to-room for the suspect.

Biehl said the FBI will take over the investigation and the hospital will remain closed to the public until further notice.

Dayton VA Medical Center is located just west of downtown Dayton.
