Idalou hires new Boys Basketball coach

IDALOU, TX (KCBD) -

Dustin Schulte has been named the new Boys Basketball Coach at Idalou, replacing Tyler Helms who moved over to be the Girls hoop coach.

Schulte, who was an assistant last year under Helms, says he's excited to take over this successful program.

"I feel very blessed. It's a great opportunity for me. I feel fortunate that the people in Idalou, the staff, the administrators have enough trust in me to take over there. I'm ready to get it going," Schulte said.

In five years under Helms, the Wildcats went to State four straight seasons, winning one State Title. 25-year-old Schulte says the expectations won't be any different.

"We're still expected to be a very competitive strong team. Nazareth was a good place to watch basketball and grow up into it and Idalou is the same way. Same expectations. The kids work hard," Schulte said.

As a player at Nazareth, Schulte won two State Championships and in 2006, his three-quarters court buzzer beater at the Texan Dome lifted the Swifts past Paducah in the Class 1A Regional Final.
