System Informs Patients of Their Illness

Do you ever leave your doctor after hearing a diagnosis and wonder, what did all that mean?

Now, Covenant Hospital is bringing in a new computer system that basically translates all the $10 words into simple English or Spanish, if that's what you prefer. It's called the Krames On Demand Stay Well System and it allows doctors and nurses to instantly print out educational material that is personalized to answer the questions of each individual patient.

"This information is written on a fourth grade reading level, and even myself, when I come to the hospital, I need that level of education because I'm scared and I'm concerned and my attention span is very short," says Veronika Harris, cardiac services nurse specialist.

Staywell is a consumer health information service linked in part to Harvard Health Publications.
