The Department of Public Safety is continuing its investigation of an accident that left three dead and one injured on Monday.
Officials say a van collided with a semi truck loaded with Ethanol around 3:30 a.m. near the intersection of Highway 87 and Farm to Market Road 41, killing all three occupants of the van and injuring the driver of the truck.
Both the truck and the van caught fire after the wreck.
The truck driver, 40-year-old Benjamin Lee O'Canas of Sundown, spoke with us on Tuesday.
O'Canas said the van hit his semi where the truck connects to the trailer and that fire sparked immediately.
He couldn't get out the driver's side door and had to kick open the passenger side and drag himself to safety.
O'Canas was released from the hospital on Tuesday.
DPS has still not released the names of those killed, but the group Liberty in North Korea has announced that the victims volunteered for their organization.
The group's goal is to help empower the North Korean people.
The group's website says the volunteers were scheduled to speak at Sundown High School on Monday afternoon.
On their Facebook page, the organization says they are honored to have known these selfless individuals who touched so many lives.
CORRECTION: An earlier version of this story said the semi collided with the van. This is not correct. KCBD regrets the error.
