Missing child found safe after frantic police search

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - It's a happy ending to a parent's worst nightmare. A missing Lubbock child was found safe with his father on Tuesday night.

Around 4 p.m., Pamela Brown discovered that her front door was open and her nine-year-old son, Trey Brown, was nowhere to be found.

Trey has Down Syndrome.

After Pamela called Lubbock Police Department, units scattered around the neighborhood to try and find the boy before dark. The DPS helicopter even joined in the search.

Authorities had been searching for about two hours when they picked up Tavist Brown, Trey's older brother. The 16-year-old was waiting for a bus at Estacado High School when police picked him up to help find Trey.

During the search, Tavist remembered an important piece of information from Tuesday morning.

"My dad said he was going to take him to Midland with him," Tavist said. "And then [the police] brought me home, I called my dad, and he said he had him."

His father, Kenneth Brown, will return with Trey late Tuesday night. Tavist says he can't wait to hug his brother when they're reunited.

"I can't put it into words," he said, "but it was very exciting."
