Stonebridge Elementary school in Brandon has not forgotten 2nd grader Jaidon Hill, who was shot and killed along with his mother and stepfather back in November. On Wednesday morning, students gathered for a tree planting in his honor at the school.
Hill's family members, and a few of the students who were in his class, each shoveled some of the dirt to plant the tree. The school will also place a 'Buddy Bench' in the 2nd grade playground in the boy's name.
A Buddy Bench is a place where students can sit if they don't have a playmate, and other students are encouraged to invite them to play.
Hill's teacher, Mirel Gill, is touched by the tribute.
"He was the sweetest student, had the best smile, so this is special to us to get to celebrate him and his life," she says.
Stonebridge Elementary Principal Dr. Sue Townsend says Hill left an indelible mark on everyone.
"He was a special little baby, always had a sweet smile, was always kind to the students, and just a loving little kid," said Townsend. "We wanted to do something after the emotions had settled down a little bit."
Two arrests have been made in the murders. Authorities have not released a motive.
