LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) -

A Lubbock man shot by police during a SWAT confrontation has died from his injuries. Police say the man was shot while charging at officers with a knife.

SWAT members first attempted to use non-lethal force by firing a "bean bag" round but took lethal action when the man lunged at officers with a knife.

Police were called to a domestic disturbance near Avenue U and 63rd around 11 a.m. on Wednesday and were confronted by a man with a machete and a large kitchen knife.

The man, identified as Arnesto Ramos, 30, was taken to UMC with life-threatening injuries and was pronounced dead on Wednesday afternoon.

Bayless Elementary and Atkins Middle School were placed in lockdown during the incident, which means no outdoor activities and all doors to the building were locked, but instruction continued normally and the lockdown was lifted at 12:50 p.m.

We'll continue to update this story as we learn more.
