Road repairs will close off key route to KCI

KANSAS CITY, MO (KCTV) -

Commuters and some travelers to Kansas City International Airport will need to seek a new route for several months as a result of road work.

The Missouri Department of Transportation announced that the northbound ramp from Interstate 635 to northbound Interstate 29 will close early Thursday.

Bridge work isn't slated to be completed until June 27. Traffic will detour to North Oak Trafficway.

MODOT says motorists can use Interstate 435, Missouri Highway 169 (also known as the Broadway extension) and Interstate 35.

Drivers say they know the improvements are needed, but no one is thrilled by the extra time tacked on to the drive.

"It's going to be an inconvenience. That is the fastest way to get there. Otherwise, I got to go through town," driver Dan Loudermilk said.
