Food for Thought: 5/8

Lubbock health inspectors checked out the cleanliness of nearly 75 kitchens this week. Out of those, we have three top performers and one low performer.

KCBD NewsChannel 11's Christy Hartin dishes out the details.

At the top this week we find three previous top performers who all, once again, had a perfect score.

  • Jazz, A Louisiana Kitchen at 3703 19th
  • Pete's Drive-In #3 at 4156 34th
  • Taco Villa at 8212 Indiana

Now to this week's only low performer.

Gardski's at 2009 Broadway had 10 critical violations.

  • Chicken salad was not cooling properly. This can cause bacteria to grow.
  • Raw chicken and cooked meatloaf were above the safe cold temperature of 41 degrees.
  • An employee did not wash their hands before putting on gloves.
  • An employee handled sandwich items with their bare hands.
  • Raw ground turkey was above cooked pot roast.
  • Milk and deli meat did not have a date mark.
  • There were no paper towels at a hand sink.
  • Toxic items were stored above a bun warmer.
  • A tea pitcher was stored with brooms and building material. The inside of the ice machine was dirty.

The inspector notes - due to the number and the nature of the violations, food safety was not observed.

Management tells us everything has been corrected.
