Grass fire forces evacuations in Hutchinson County

HUTCHINSON COUNTY, TX (KCBD) -

A wide-ranging grass fire swept through Hutchinson County on Sunday, forcing the evacuation of several towns.

Hutchinson County Emergency Management says several homes and structures have burned, but no injures have been reported so far.

The fire continued to burn in the Lake Meredith area between Sanford and Fritch on Sunday night. Mandatory evacuations were in place for Sanford and areas south along Lake Meredith to just north of Fritch.

The evacuation receiving point for Sanford is the Borger aluminum dome. Fritch High School and the celebration Family Church remain evacuation receiving points for locations south of Sanford.

Highway 136 between Fritch and Amarillo has been shut down to all traffic except emergency vehicles.
