Imagine Lubbock committee reveals latest vision for city

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) -

Tuesday night, the Imagine Lubbock Together Steering Committee updated people on their progress. They're working to make improvements that they say you want.

The group is focused on eight key areas: arts and culture, basic fundamental services (mobility, health, safety, energy, and water), beautification and image, downtown, economic development, education, entertainment and recreation, neighborhoods.

Chairwoman Connie Wharton says it's an on-going process.

"It shows a direction to go, so as we move through time there will be things that we accomplish, but there will be new needs that are identified. So, hopefully this is a great start for making this the kind of city so many people want to see it be," Wharton said.

Current projects include supporting Lubbock Entertainment and Performing Arts Association (LEPAA) fundraising for a new performing arts center.

Working on city-wide mobility issues to include maintaining the integrity of the City's Gateway Streets Project Fund and bike lane planning through the Chamber's Transportation Committee.

Enhancements to the Canyon Lakes recreation area are being promoted by ILT and research is currently being conducted for creating a role for a retail attraction entity.
